What is the Deep Web?

Posted on Posted in Fun Facts

The Deep Web, also referred to as the Dark Web, Dank Web, or Sercet Internet is ~7,500TB of content not indexed by search engines like Google, Bing, or Yahoo. Sites such as these, in which spiders can’t crawl because of the need for a login name and registered password or which are simply part of an old database of client records on some corporate network for example, are more prolific then we really realize. Facebook itself is comprised of quite a large amount of Deep Web content due to the way it handles the account information of it’s client-base.

In order to access the Deep Web, you require the use of a special browser, as the URL’s accessed by it are dynamic, just strings of seemingly random numbers and letters. The information exchanged between your computer and the Deep Web is secured by three layers of encryption and passes through a myriad of anonymous relays. This feature allows its user to hide their originating IP address and achieve a state of pseudo-anonymity.

Once you arrive at the gateway to the Deep Web, new users can start their search for interesting web sites via The Hidden Wiki and more seasoned users have probably already collected a large trove of link lists, attained through forum requests and friends found in chat rooms once online so already are off to a good start.

As with any new endeavor, where you find yourself in unfamiliar territory, you need to make sure you do your research as to possible dangers you can face during surfing, but there are also considerable margins allowed while having fun with your exploration of the Deep Web. You are likely to find sites about Hit-men for hire, the black market sales of guns and drugs, and cp, but there are also tons of positive things as well. Sites allowing for free speech in restrictive countries and in light of oppressive governments, entire libraries and even a site about rubber ducks and another offering fun cat facts.

In conclusion, stay safe, always use common sense while surfing and remember to have fun, or things just aren’t worth doing!
